Paleomagnetic and geochemical analysis of the Summit Creek volcanics, South-Central Cascades, WA
نویسنده
چکیده
The Basalt of Summit Creek is an enigmatic basalt unit that is about 55 million years (Ma) in age, located south of Mount Rainier. These basalts formed in a transitional time between the formation of the Coastal Range Basalts and the present Cascade arc. Through geochemical and paleomagnetic techniques, samples were collected and analyzed. Paleomagnetic samples showed nearly complete post eruptive demagnetization. Geochemical samples show arc type rocks lower in section and OIB at upper sites. Goals and Purpose (1) To determine the tectonic setting in which these rocks formed (2) To better understand their relationship to the Crescent Basalts (3) To establish the extent to which these basalts have undergone rotation and/or northward translation. Acknowledgements I would like to thank: 1) The University of Puget Sound for funding my Summer Research Grant, 2) Professor Mike Valentine for guiding me through this process as well as sharing his knowledge of paleomagnetism, 3) Professor Jeff Tepper for is assistance in identifying rocks, fusing and ICP analysis.

Chemometrics-enhanced Classification of Source Rock Samples Using their Bulk Geochemical Data: Southern Persian Gulf Basin
Chemometric methods can enhance geochemical interpretations, especially when working with large datasets. With this aim, exploratory hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) methods are used herein to study the bulk pyrolysis parameters of 534 samples from the Persian Gulf basin. These methods are powerful techniques for identifying the patterns of variations i...
متن کاملProspecting polymetallic mineralization in Ardestan area, Central Iran, using fractal modeling and staged factor analysis
The purpose of this study is to determine geochemical anomalies on lithogeochemical data from Ardestan area, Central Iran, using concentration-number (C-N) fractal modeling and staged factor analysis. Staged factor analysis is used to the recognition of genetic correlation and elimination of non-indicator elements in three steps. Factor scores of elements were calculated and geochemical data cl...
متن کاملSeparation of Geochemical Anomalies Using Factor Analysis and Concentration-Number (C-N) Fractal Modeling Based on Stream Sediments Data in Esfordi 1:100000 Sheet, Central Iran
The aim of this study is separation of Fe2O3, TiO2 and V2O5 anomalies in Esfordi 1:100,000 sheet which is located in Bafq district, Central Iran. The analyzed elements of stream sediment samples taken in the area can be classified into 5 groups (factors) by factor analysis. The Concentration–Number (C-N) fractal model was used for delineation of the Fe2O3, TiO2 and V2O5 thresholds. According to...

The supercontinent Rodinia is hypothesized to have been assembled and positioned in tropical latitudes by the early Neoproterozoic Era. Paleomagnetic data from limestones of Svalbard and basaltic dikes of South China have been interpreted to record rapid changes in paleogeography driven by true polar wander that may have rotated the supercontinent in association with the 800 Ma Bitter Springs c...
